Friston Forest - 30th July

The Broad-leaved Helleborines are now in full flower in Friston Forest, surrounded by hundreds of White Helleborines which must have been an amazing sight when in flower earlier in the year. Definitely will return here next spring to behold that spectacle. The colour variation of the BLHs is striking with one particularly attractive plant having pale green colouration on its labellum. The common wasp is clearly a prime pollinator of BLHs.

Horseshoe Plantation - 30th July

An early morning start paid off with a more docile Silver-spotted Skipper at the bottom of the slope which was easier to photograph. Also some Wall Browns and Common Blues and many Chalkhill Blues, some of which were pairing.

Horseshoe Plantation - 28th July

A great day at Horseshoe Plantation chasing Blues and Browns. Several recently emerged Brown Argus, Common Blue, Chalkhill Blue and Wall Brown. Skippers included Silver-spotted whizzing around as usual together with Small, Large and Essex. A few Dark Green Fritillary and Marbled White still flying together with plenty of Gatekeepers.

Marline Wood - 24th & 25th July

Made a couple of visits to Marline Wood to photograph the Broad-leaved Helleborines. They were in heavy shade hence the need for flash.

Ainsdale Dunes - 19th July

A couple of very attractive Broad-leaved Helleborines at Ainsdale Dunes today. The first time I have found them in addition to the usual Dune and Green-flowered Helleborines.
