Chantry Hill - 6th June

Martin Kalaher kindly agreed to show me around Chantry Hill near Storrington which is very much his local patch. It quickly became clear that he new this place like the back of his hand, able to pinpoint with great accuracy the various colonies of different butterflies that can be found here. The main target of the day was Duke of Burgundy and we found the first colony quite quickly, and then others as we proceeded to cover most of the hill. Also present, exactly as Martin predicted, were Brown Argus, Grizzled Skipper and a Small Blue. In places Chantry Hill is very steep indeed, particularly on the last leg back to the car. A fantastic day and one to remember.
